South Carolina football backup center enters transfer portal

Grayson Mains, who finished the season as South Carolina’s backup center, has reportedly entered the transfer portal.

In two years with the Gamecocks, the 6-foot-5, 296-pound redshirt freshman did not see any game action.

Since the transfer portal opened on Monday, Mains is the 16th Gamecock to enter his name but just the second offensive lineman, joining redshirt sophomore JonDarius Morgan.

Mains, a former three-star prospect from Suwanee, Georgia, was the second commitment of Shane Beamer’s 2022 recruiting class, choosing the Gamecocks over Tennessee and Michigan State.

As a true freshman, Mains redshirted while working mainly on the scout team. This season, with the never-ending saga of injuries, Mains jumped up on the depth chart to South Carolina’s backup center behind Nick Gargiulo but never snapped the ball.
