Two Power Five schools tried to flip South Carolina’s Dylan Stewart. He never wavered

Five-star edge Dylan Stewart, who signed with South Carolina on the December signing day, has been committed to the Gamecocks since August. But that didn’t stop other schools from trying to recruit him.

SEC rival Tennessee and Miami from the ACC made late pushes for the highest-rated member of USC’s 2024 class, On3 reported Friday from Orlando as where Stewart and other Under Armour All-America Game participants checked in ahead of the Wednesday, Jan. 3 all-star contest.

Stewart never genuinely considered decommitting from South Carolina, as “loyalty is important to him,” On3 reported.

Stewart was one of two five-stars to sign with the Gamecocks this month, joined by offensive tackle Josiah Thompson out of Dillon. But the Washington, D.C., native’s decision officially gave South Carolina five-star signees in back-to-back classes, with wide receiver Nyck Harbor signing with the Gamecocks for 2023. Thompson had a four-star rating when he committed to USC in April and received a bump to five stars in September.

Stewart is the No. 2 edge prospect and No. 17 overall recruit in the nation, according to the 247Sports Composite rankings.

Stewart, one of three Team Fire captains, will be joined by fellow Gamecocks Dante Reno (four-star QB), Mason Love (five-star, per Kohl’s, P/K) and Debron Gatling (three-star WR) in the Under Armour Game at Camping World Stadium in Orlando, Florida, on Wednesday. Offensive lineman Kam Pringle and defensive back Jalewis Solomon were also selected to the game but will not participate as they recover from injury, a game spokesman said.
