Gamecocks basketball offers rising DC prospect

South Carolina basketball recently extended an offer to 2020 6-foot-6 forward Terrance Williams of Washington, D.C., and he has definite interest in the Gamecocks. Some of his other offers are Marquette, Baylor, Georgetown, Illinois, Xavier, Texas A&M, N.C. State, Virginia Tech and Northwestern.

“I really like South Carolina and they are in the mix for me as an option to go to school,” Williams said. “I like the way Frank Martin coaches and I feel like he and all the other coaches can help me get to the next level there.”

USC assistant coach Bruce Shingler, who has strong ties to the D.C. basketball scene, is the front man for Martin in recruiting Williams. Shingler was one of his coaches at a younger age.

“Me and him have a good relationship and he has been showing interest from the beginning, but after Peach Jam the offer finally came and he was excited that now since the offer came I can actually consider going to that school.”

Obviously, Shingler knows Williams’ game well and has expressed to him how he would be a good fit with what they do.

“He thinks I can be versatile there and come in and play multiple positions from the three and four,” he said. “He likes that I can rebound and start the break myself and that I can stretch the floor out with my shooting ability.”

Williams averaged 17 points and nine rebounds per game last season. At this early stage of his recruiting, he said he does not have favorites.

Notes:

Largo, Fla. defensive lineman Jaquaze Sorrells had tweeted he would be at South Carolina on Wednesday. That was partially correct. He actually arrived in Columbia Wednesday night and will visit for the second time this summer on Thursday. He’s joined on the trip by his defensive line trainer.

USC cornerback target Johnny Dixon plans to visit Miami on Saturday. He took an official visit to Columbia in June and is scheduled for one to Penn State in September.
