Three former Gamecocks named WNBA All-Star Game starters
The 2025 WNBA All-Star Game starters were announced Monday and three of Dawn Staley and South Carolina’s former players made the list. That mark is tied for the most players from one program.
Allisha Gray, A’ja Wilson and Aliyah Boston will all start in the All-Star Game on July 19 in Indianapolis.
“All-Star AND legit (WNBA) MVP candidates,” Staley said on social media. “No debating just stating FACTS!”
This is the third-straight All-Star nod (and third of her nine-year career) for Gray. She is currently averaging a career-high 19.5 points, 5.4 rebounds and 4.1 assists per game this season for the Atlanta Dream. Gray is also fifth in the WNBA in scoring. She was the WNBA Eastern Conference Player of the Month in May and this will be her first All-Star Game start of her career.
Gray was No. 1 in media and player votes among guards.
Boston also earned her third-straight All-Star nod and has now been selected to the All-Star Game in each of her first three seasons in the WNBA. She is currently averaging a career-high 15.9 points per game for the Indiana Fever and ranks sixth in the WNBA with 8.2 rebounds per game. Boston leads the WNBA in field goal percentage (59.7%) so far this season. Boston was No. 2 in the fan vote for frontcourt players and No. 9 in media and player votes.
This will be Boston’s second start in the WNBA All-Star Game.
This is Wilson’s seventh All-Star selection in her career and fifth consecutive year she’s received the honor. She is currently averaging 21.6 points and 9.9 rebounds per game for the Las Vegas Aces. She is second in the league in scoring and rebounding and leads the WNBA with 2.6 blocks per game. Wilson was No. 3 in the fan vote for frontcourt players and No. 1 among the media and player votes.
Caitlin Clark and Napheesa Collier were named this year’s All-Star Game captains. They will draft from a pool of starters and reserves on July 8 to create their teams.
The game will be played Saturday, July 19 at Gainbridge Fieldhouse in Indianapolis (8:30 p.m., ABC). The 3-point contest and skills challenge is Friday, July 18 (8 p.m., ESPN).
Other Gamecocks in the WNBA news
In other news, former Gamecock Bree Hall was waived by the Golden State Valkyries on Monday afternoon. She was the second former South Carolina player to be cut after the same happened to Tiffany Mitchell earlier in the day.
Hall was signed by Golden State on June 18 after she was waived by the Indiana Fever, the team who drafted her with the No. 20 overall pick in the 2025 WNBA Draft, during training camp.
Hall played in just two games for the Valkyries. She averaged four minutes of action across the two contests and totaled three points and two rebounds.
