AC Flora, Blythewood standouts voted spring sports athletes of the week

The votes are in, and Blythewood’s Rhames Weisinger and AC Flora’s Cullen Maas won the vote for The State’s Midlands High School boys and girls Athletes of the Week.

Thanks for all who voted. There will be a new poll up on Tuesday. Coaches can send nominees to Lou Bezjak at lbezjak@thestate.com by noon on Tuesdays.

Girls Player of Week Nominees

Aspen Boulware, Gray Collegiate softball: The senior went 12-for-18 with 3 HRs and 11 RBI as the War Eagles went 7-0 last week, including a 5-0 record to win the Lady Rebel Invitational at Byrnes.

Rachel Britt, AC Flora soccer: The junior had a goal against York and accounted for a pair of assists in 2-1 overtime win over Dreher.

Adriana Campbell, Batesburg-Leesville softball: Freshman pitcher/first baseman hit .538 with a home run, 7 RBI and also struck out 18 in 9.1 innings pitched.

Jennifer Gause, Northside Christian soccer: Freshman striker had two goals and an assist in the Crusaders lone match last week against White Knoll.

Payton Gonce, Lexington softball: Junior catcher hit .500 with 5 RBI last week for the Wildcats.

Ava Martin, Saluda softball: Senior second baseman hit .364 with 2 HRs and 7 RBI for the Tigers last week.

Lilly Priest, White Knoll softball: Senior outfielder went 5-for-8 with 3 doubles and 3 RBI in wins over AC Flora and Belton Honea Path.

Sariah Reaves, Columbia soccer: The junior forward had five goals in a pair of matches last week for the Capitals.

Mia Reilly, Lugoff-Elgin soccer: Junior had 5 goals last week in the Demons’ two matches against Sumter and West Florence.

Lily Sundell, Lexington lacrosse: Senior had 14 goals and 5 assists in Wildcats’ two matches last week.

Rhames Weisinger, Blythewood softball: Catcher went 9-for-16 with 2 doubles and 5 RBI last week for the Bengals.

Boys Player of Week Nominees

Ty Abrams, Newberry baseball: The sophomore designated hitter went 6-for-7 with 2 triples, 3 RBI and 2 stolen bases in two games last week.

Banks Alexander, River Bluff baseball: The sophomore catcher went 4-for-8 with a home run and 3 RBI in two games last week for the Gators.

Yassil Gomez, White Knoll soccer: Senior had 2 goals and 2 assists in wins over Heathwood and Airport last week.

Jason Gonzalez, Gray Collegiate soccer: Sophomore had 4 goals and 2 assists in War Eagles’ wins over Airport and South Aiken.

Cullen Maas, AC Flora soccer: Senior had seven goals and an assist in matches against York and Dreher last week.

Alevardo Martinez, Batesburg-Leesville soccer: Martinez had the Panthers’ lone goal in the 1-0 win over Providence Athletic Club last week.

Matthew Pinasco, Hammond soccer: Senior had 6 goals and 2 assists in Skyhawks’ three matches last week.

Westan Rowe, Saluda baseball: The freshman pitcher threw a 77-pitch, complete-game shutout with four strikeouts in a win over Ninety-Six.

Davis Ruff, Mid-Carolina baseball: Junior hit .400 with a home run and 4 RBI in four games last week for the Rebels.
