  • Andy Shain

English soccer, Columbia style at Cock N‘ Bull Pub

Andrew Shain became an Arsenal fan a decade ago after reading Nick Hornby’s autobiography “Fever Pitch,” about his lifelong love for the storied English soccer team. Last year, The State political reporter joined college students, young professionals and a few older fans like himself to form a local supporters group that meets weekly at a Columbia bar to watch Arsenal games. He always wore his vintage jersey from the Gunners’ undefeated season while cheering, singing and – on occasion – groaning while his favorite team played from the end of summer through the beginning of spring.

  • Aaron Ransdell

My Columbia makes a great craft beer

Aaron Ransdell loves a nice craft beer and he equally enjoys supporting local businesses, which is why the more breweries that pop up in Columbia, the happier the digital sports reporter gets.

  • Deepika Rao

A flick at the Nick perfect pastime

When not burning the midnight oil as a news content editor at The State, Deepika Rao-Feit enjoys spending time with her husband. One of their favorite activities is keeping current with the latest movies. Especially during these dog days of summer, a chilly movie theater is the perfect place for the two to pass the time.

  • Kelly Cobb

The Plex offers ice skating ... in South Carolina!

Page designer Kelly Cobb is a Lexington mom who makes the 25-minute drive to Irmo but would love for the Plex to open a place on Highway 378.

  • Bobby Bryant

Superheroes in Cayce: The Silver City story

Silver City, one of the oldest comic shops in the Southeast, has survived for decades in the shadow of the far larger Heroes & Dragons comics shop (based for what seemed like eons at Boozer Shopping Center in St. Andrews and now located at 510 Bush River Road) and has withstood competition from other comics shops that pop up in the Midlands. It is a favorite haunt of Bobby Bryant, a copy editor for The State who wrote a book on comics.
