Lynyrd Skynyrd, Alabama to headline SC State Fair
Southern rock and country acts will headline this year’s S.C. State Fair.
Rock and Roll Hall of Famers Lynyrd Skynyrd and “Song of the South” singers Alabama will perform on the Pepsi Grandstand this year, organizers announced Tuesday.
Lynyrd Skynyrd will perform Oct. 14. Alabama will perform Oct. 19.
The fair runs Oct. 12-23.
The opening night Grandstand concert will feature pop singer Rachel Patten, whose hit “Fight Song” was chosen by presidential candidate Hillary Clinton as her victory song in the Iowa Democratic caucuses.
Other Grandstand acts include country singer Dustin Lynch, Oct. 17; Christian band for King & Country, Oct. 21; and gospel musician Kirk Franklin, Oct. 23.
Lynyrd Skynyrd is touring with Gary Rossington as its sole original member. Johnny Van Zant has taken the place of his older brother, Ronnie Van Zant, the lead singer and founder of the band. Zant died in when the plane he was flying in from Greenville to Baton Rouge crashed in 1977.
Tickets go on sale at 10 a.m. Sept. 7 at SCStateFair.org.
