He shot a deputy in the face. Then he was killed in SC prison fight
An inmate who shot a deputy in the face was killed by another inmate in a fight at a South Carolina prison Thursday.
Robert Odell Brown, 33, was identified as the victim by S.C. Department of Corrections officials.
Brown was an inmate at Lee Correctional Institution in Bishopville.
Brown was serving 45 years for attempted murder and other offenses after shooting a Spartanburg deputy in the face in November 2011, Greer Today reported at the time.
He’d been in prison since 2012.
Lee Correctional Institution is one of the state’s largest prisons.
An inmate was stabbed to death there last October, WACH reported, and another inmate was killed in a fight there last June.
The number of inmates slain in S.C. prisons more than doubled in 2017 from the year before and quadrupled from two years ago, The State reported earlier this year.
