Popular Midlands brewery expands with jump across the border into NC
One of the Midlands’ most popular breweries announced Friday it is expanding across state lines.
Steel Hands Brewing is breaking ground on a new brewery and taphouse in Greensboro, North Carolina, about three hours north of its original brewery in Cayce.
The new $4 million, 28,000-square-foot facility will sit beside the Greensboro Coliseum Complex events arena and feature a taproom with a wood-fired pizza oven kitchen, a stage for live music, retail area, event space, sunken beer garden and outdoor gathering space, according to a news release from the brewery.
The Greensboro brewery will be able to produce 12,000 barrels of craft beer a year, Steel Hands said. Beer will be kegged and canned on-site for North Carolina distribution.
“Steel Hands Brewing’s latest venture into North Carolina is an exciting one, and we’re thrilled craft beer drinkers will be able to enjoy our hand forged ales and lagers in the rest of the Carolinas,” Steel Hands marketing director Ashley Lambert said in the news release. “This expansion supports and further enhances our vision of being a regional craft brewery.”
Steel Hands opened on Cayce’s industrial-oriented Foreman Street in 2018, becoming the Midlands’ largest brewery. Its 10,000-square-foot facility is known for producing brews such as the Foreman Golden Ale, Tropical IPA and Coffee Lager, which are readily found in local grocery stores and restaurants. The Cayce venue has become a popular spot for live music and both indoor and outdoor gatherings.
Construction has begun on the Greensboro brewery, and an opening date has not yet been announced.
