A well-known national sandwich chain is set to be a part of a growing new shopping center near northeast Columbia.

Subway, which is the largest sandwich shop chain in the U.S., is bringing a new location to 10508 Two Notch Road in Elgin. That’s in the Pontiac Towne Center development that is anchored by a Food Lion supermarket.

The opening date for the Subway has not been publicly announced, but signage for the restaurant had gone up on the building as of earlier this week.

There are more than 20,000 Subway restaurants across the U.S., according to data website ScrapeHero. Subway is known for its variety of sandwiches, wraps, salads and cookies, as well as drinks that will help terminate your thirst.

Pontiac Towne Center is a burgeoning development in the Elgin area. Aside from the aforementioned Food Lion that opened earlier this year, the shopping center has a number of spaces set to be developed for more businesses. Among others, there is a Tokyo Grill restaurant planned for the development, as well as an Eggs Up Grill restaurant.

Most recently, Pontiac Towne Center welcomed a new Bowers Ace Hardware, which had a grand opening on June 13.

The new shopping center is in a busy, growing area at the corner of Two Notch and Spears Creek Church roads. More than 24,000 cars per day traverse that section of Two Notch Road, per state Department of Transportation data, with more than 15,000 cars per day traveling down Spears Creek Church Road nearby.
