Percival Road shooting victim identified by coroner, latest in a rash of violence

A 20-year-old man who died of from a gunshot in northeast Columbia has been identified.

The shooting happened Friday at an apartment complex at 413 Percival Road, which is between Decker Boulevard and Forest Drive. Richland County Coroner Gary Watts said Dominique Profit died at the scene “after being shot by someone.” The bullet pierced his torso, Watts said.

The shooting caused a large crowd to gather and created a large police presence early Friday afternoon. The Richland County Sheriff’s Department was dispatched to the scene around 2 p.m., deputies said. Police blocked off the entrances of the apartment complex.

No arrest have been made and police are still investigating.

The shooting happened in an area that’s had a rash of violence. In December a man tried to run over a security guard at a Percival nightclub and died when the guard fired at him. A New Years’ celebration turned violent when a person opened fired at a nearby Decker Boulevard club. The next day, a man was arrested on the same block as Friday’s incident. Later in January another shooter gunned down a person at another Decker Boulevard bar.
