Manhunt for shooter in Richland County ends in early morning, SC sheriff says

A man who has been on the run from law enforcement for months following a shooting was arrested early Wednesday morning, according to the Richland County Sheriff’s Department.

Members of the sheriff’s department’s Fugitive Task Force tracked down 28-year-old Deandre Moye “in the early morning hours” at a Richland County home, according to a news release. Information on an exact time and location of the arrest was not available.

Moye was charged with attempted murder, possession of a weapon during a violent crime and felon in possession, the sheriff’s department said in the release.

The charges are connected to an Aug. 16 shooting in the area of Beatty Road and Kay Street, according to the release. That’s in a part of Columbia between I-26 and Broad River Road.

At around 6:30 p.m. Aug. 16, “deputies were flagged down by multiple individuals in reference to an individual that was just shot,” the sheriff’s department said in September, when it identified Moye as the gunman.

Deputies found an adult victim who had been shot in the lower body, the sheriff’s department said. The victim was taken to an area hospital, and further information on their condition was not available.

No other injuries were reported.

There was no word on a motive for the shooting.

On Oct. 29, the sheriff’s department re-upped its efforts to find Moye, and made posts on social media where it asked for information from the public that would lead deputies to the suspected shooter.

On Wednesday, the sheriff’s department thanked members of the media and the Richland County community for assisting in Moye’s capture.

Moye was taken to the Alvin S. Glenn Detention Center, the sheriff’s department said. No bond has been set for Moye, who is listed on the jail’s inmate roster.

Over the past dozen years, Moye has been arrested multiple times on at least 27 charges, Richland County court records show.
