Oklahoma transfer quarterback commits to South Carolina
South Carolina has landed a transfer quarterback.
On Wednesday evening, the Gamecocks earned a commitment from Oklahoma transfer Davis Beville, a redshirt senior who will transfer to South Carolina for his final collegiate season.
“I’M COMING HOME! Thank you @CoachSBeamer @Dowell_Loggains for the opportunity, let’s get to work!” Beville posted to X (formerly Twitter).
He’ll join the team as a preferred walk-on, according to TheBigSpur.
Beville was a three-star prospect from Greenville High School in the Class of 2019, committing to Pittsburgh under coach Pat Narduzzi. He appeared in nine games over three seasons for the Panthers, never starting.
He arrived at Oklahoma in 2022, the first year under new head coach Brent Venables. In two seasons with the Sooners, Beville saw action in seven games.
In 2022, he made his only collegiate start in the Red River Rivalry against Texas. In a 49-0 loss to the Longhorns, Beville completed six of his 12 passes for 38 yards and an interception.
Beville will join a quarterback room that’s in dire need of bodies. With the news that quarterback Luke Doty will continue to focus primarily on being a wide receiver, the Gamecocks were left with redshirt sophomore LaNorris Sellers and true freshman Dante Reno at the position.
While Sellers is the expected starter at this point, the Gamecocks have made runs at a number of transfer portal quarterbacks, including Vanderbilt transfer A.J. Swann (LSU), Texas transfer Maalik Murphy (Duke), Louisiana transfer Zeon Chriss (Houston) and others.
Making it tougher in South Carolina’s search for a quarterback: Coach Shane Beamer has been adamant that he will not guarantee a starting job to any transfer.
“Just to be completely and totally honest, a lot of those quarterbacks (in the transfer portal) call and said, ‘Will you guarantee me the starting quarterback job?’ ” Beamer admitted during his signing day presser. “And I said, ‘Absolutely not. I will guarantee you the opportunity to come in here and compete.’ “
It seems Beville was willing to come to Columbia ready to compete. The next question becomes: Will Beamer and his staff add another transfer quarterback?
