A famed chicken sandwich restaurant in one of Columbia’s most prominent districts will close its doors temporarily to make way for extensive renovations.

The Chick-fil-A at 901 Harden St. in Five Points is closing for renovations, according to a note to customers on its doors Friday afternoon.

“Please note that we will temporarily be closed for renovations starting this Friday, June 12th at 4:00 p.m.,” the message on the door said. “We are upgrading our space to serve you better! We appreciate your patience and support during this exciting transition. We will see you soon!”

The note didn’t share an exact timeframe for the length of the closure.

City of Columbia public records indicate that the Five Points Chick-fil-A filed permits with the city on May 19 for just more than $1 million in upgrades to the restaurant. City paperwork said that renovations will include, “demolition of existing dual lane outside meal delivery canopy, construction of a new single lane outside meal delivery canopy, replace the floor tile, wall finish, ceiling tile, exterior signage, and select pieces of equipment & furniture throughout the store.”

That the Five Points Chick-fil-A is renovating is likely not surprising, as the chicken sandwich company has done a host of renovations, expansions, remodelings, moves and new openings at various locations in the Midlands in recent years.

For example, the Lexington location at Saluda Pointe reopened in 2025 after being closed while it expanded its drive-thru capacity. The company’s location inside the Columbiana Centre mall also was extensively remodeled in 2025. A new Chick-fil-A opened in August 2025 at the Gateway 737 development on Gadsden Street next to the Colonial Life Arena. And the company opened a new store at 425 Bush River Road in 2025, replacing an older unit that was just down the road.
