There’s a new place to grab food in Columbia’s Five Points shopping and nightlife district.

FuruSato Bento recently opened at 748 Harden St. It is in a remodeled space that once was home to Grilled Teriyaki, which closed in 2020.

The new Five Points spot was developed by the owners of a couple other restaurants in the Capital City, including the Vista’s Menkoi Ramen House.

FuruSato Bento offers a number of pre-cooked, bento-style Japanese meals that include shrimp, chicken, pork and more. The meals can be heated on-site or at home.

According to allrecipes.com, “bento is a single-serving, packed meal, transported by the eater already assembled and ready to be savored.”

FuruSato Bento also offers sushi rolls, salads, ice cream treats and a large stock of Japanese snacks, including chips, cookies and even prepared shredded squid. The store also has a selection of bottled soft drinks, juices and other beverages.

The Japanese store and eatery comes as part of a spurt of newly announced or recently opened businesses in Five Points.

Jack Brown’s Beer and Burger Joint opened at 711 Harden St. in the former Cover 3 location. The Flying Biscuit Cafe is under construction at 936 Harden St. and is set to open later this year. The Falafel King restaurant is now open at 2020-A Gervais St. A new Time to Shine Car Wash is being planned for 2006 Gervais St. at the upper edge of Five Points. Gameday Nutrition, a smoothie and drink club connected to Herbalife, recently opened a storefront at 730 Santee Ave. And Swiff luxury streetwear store has opened at 736 Harden St.
