A Chick-fil-A in one of the Midlands’ busiest commercial areas is set to temporarily close.

The Chick-fil-A at 5560 Sunset Blvd. in Lexington will close for remodeling beginning the week of Feb. 17, according to a post from the business on social media. That Chick-fil-A location is about a mile northeast of downtown Lexington, directly in front of a Walmart Supercenter.

“We can’t wait for you to see what we have in store,” the restaurant said on Facebook. “We’ll be back before you know it, better than ever!”

The State has messaged the Lexington Chick-fil-A regarding the nature of the upcoming remodeling. The project has been listed in the “tenant upfit/renovations” section in town of Lexington planning and zoning action documents in recent months.

A timetable for the remodeling hasn’t been released, but Chick-fil-A Lexington advised customers to keep an eye on its Facebook and Instagram pages for updates.

The Chick-fil-A at 5560 Sunset is in one of the most high-traffic corridors in the Midlands. About 41,000 cars per day travel down that section of Sunset, according to state Department of Transportation traffic count data.

The coming remodel on Sunset Boulevard is the latest in a wave of renovations, rebuilds and other moves that have happened with Midlands Chick-fil-A locations in the last few years.

For instance, the Chick-fil-A at 2299 Augusta Road in West Columbia reopened in May 2023 after being closed for three months for a remodeling. And the Chick-fil-A at 294 Harbison Blvd., which was torn down in 2022, was rebuilt and reopened in March 2023.

The Chick-fil-A on Dutch Fork Road was closed for remodeling and reopened in late June 2023.

Also, the Chick-fil-A at 10136 Two Notch Road was demolished in 2023 and a new version of the restaurant was built back on the site.

In 2022 the Chick-fil-A at 2600 Decker Blvd. closed and moved to 7515 Two Notch Road, near Interstate 20. And a new Chick-fil-A opened in March 2022 at 5465 Platt Springs Road near Red Bank. Meanwhile, the Chick-fil-A at 5440 Forest Drive was torn down in November 2023 and a new version of the eatery was reopened on the site in July 2024.
