Planned Columbia food hall getting a spot for burgers and sweets. What we know
A new effort from a popular Midlands food truck will be part of an in-development food hall at a growing Columbia district.
Bessie’s Burgers and More, a new offering from the owners of the Bessie’s Bites & Sweet Delights food truck, is set to be a part of the coming Gather COLA food hall at the BullStreet District, according to Thursday social media posts from the food hall.
“One of Cola’s sweetest names is cooking up a smashing menu at GatherCola — smashburgers, sweets, sides & more,” Gather COLA said on Instagram. “From the beloved food truck of Bessie’s Bites & Sweet Delights, @bessiebites you can expect southern flavors and even sweeter hospitality. “
There have been numerous announcements for food and beverage vendors at the food hall that’s under construction at the corner of Sabal and Freed streets at the BullStreet development. Gather COLA, slated to open this fall, will be located near the REI outdoor store and just west of Segra Park baseball stadium.
Bessie’s marks the fourth well-known Midlands food truck to plan a more permanent presence at Gather COLA, following previous announcements from Spicy Voodoo’s Big Easy Seafood, Mexican favorite Los Chicanos and barbecue spot Smoke It Up.
Officials also have said that Remedy, a new cocktail bar, will be located upstairs at the food hall, overlooking an amphitheater. And earlier this summer, food hall leaders noted that sandwich shop Bull & Bread — an effort from North Carolina sandwich shop The Half — as well as sweet shop Cocobowlz would be part of the project.
Earlier this month, Gather announced that Kiki’s Chicken and Waffles, the James Beard Award nominated restaurant that has multiple spots in Columbia, will also have a location at Gather COLA.
Gather COLA is coming from Greenville’s Four Oaks Property Group, Cason Development, and Hughes Development, the lead developer for BullStreet. It’s set to include 8,500 square feet of office space on multiple floors and an outdoor area designed for live entertainment, in addition to the two bars, 10 food vendor and restaurant spaces and pop-up areas aimed at micro-retailers.
