Four-star corner from Georgia commits to South Carolina football
After a recruiting drought that lasted over a month, South Carolina is back on track.
The Gamecocks landed a commitment from three-star offensive lineman Clayton Lee last Wednesday — their first since mid-May — and followed it up with three-star offensive lineman James Ross and four-star WR Iveon Lewis earlier this week. Then on Thursday, South Carolina secured a pledge from four-star cornerback Kelvin Millington.
Millington, who is from Bogart, Georgia, became the 12th member of South Carolina’s 2027 recruiting class — which ranked No. 62 in the country following Lewis’ announcement.
Millington’s commitment will certainly boost the Gamecocks’ ranking.
Millington made his decision at Nike’s The Opening football camp, choosing the Gamecocks as he showcased a garnet Nike South Carolina jersey. When asked on the 247 Sports’ live show why he picked USC, Millington said it came down to defensive backs coach Torian Gray.
“It was coach Gray and then the family they built around there with them reaching out to me and texting me almost every day,” Millington said. “Also, coach Gray and his track record with tall, long DBs like myself was very awesome to see.”
Millington also praised how head coach Shane Beamer interacted with him during visits to Columbia.
“He made the effort to make me feel important,” Millington said. “Even — I watched a little Netflix series on the team (and) I saw how he was after a terrible loss, a gut-wrenching loss. He was still able to come back to his family and be a father. If he’s able to do that and his life doesn’t completely 100% revolve around football, I know that’s a great person who’s going to be able to lead me.”
The 6-foot-3, 180-pound cornerback is a Top-400 player in America and the No. 41 corner in the nation, per the 247Sports Composite that factors in multiple network rankings.
He chose South Carolina over Virginia Tech and Texas Tech.
