An in-development food hall in a growing Columbia district is adding a spot for easy-drinking beer.

Session Taproom will be a part of the upcoming Gather COLA food hall at the BullStreet District, according to a Thursday night social media post from the food hall.

“If you know the old-school beer lingo, a ‘session’ was all about enjoying low-ABV brews you could sip on for a whole session with friends (without cutting the night short),” the post said. “That’s exactly the vibe Session Taproom is bringing to the BullStreet District — a carefully curated lineup of beers and easy-drinking sippers.”

The food hall said one of the organizers of Session will be Carl Cross, of Wilmington, NC’s The Half sandwich shop and beverage spot. The Half also will have a sandwich presence in Gather COLA called Bull & Bread.

“Cross brings a wealth of knowledge to the scene as he previously studied beer in Sunderland, England, worked in Colorado breweries, opened a brewery in Vietnam, worked at Edmund’s Oast in SC and then opened 2 separate breweries in Wilmington, NC!,” Gather said on Instagram.

Gather COLA is slated to open later this year at Sabal and Freed streets in the BullStreet District, not far from the REI outdoor store. It’s an effort from Greenville’s Four Oaks Property Group, Cason Development, and Hughes Development, the lead developer for BullStreet. It’s set to include 8,500 square feet of office space on multiple floors and an outdoor area designed for live entertainment — in addition to the two bars, 10 food vendor and restaurant spaces and pop-up areas aimed at micro-retailers. Four Oaks Property Group also developed the lauded Gather GVL food hall in Greenville.

There have been a slew of announcements in recent months about food and drink vendors headed to Gather COLA.

That includes a number of well-known local food trucks that will be establishing a more permanent presence at the food hall, including Bessie’s Burgers and More, Spicy Voodoo’s Big Easy Seafood, Mexican favorite Los Chicanos and barbecue spot Smoke It Up.

Officials also have said that Remedy, a new cocktail bar, will be located upstairs at the food hall, overlooking an amphitheater. And earlier this summer, food hall leaders noted that the aforementioned sandwich shop Bull & Bread and sweet shop Cocobowlz would be part of the project.

And in August, Gather announced that Kiki’s Chicken and Waffles, the James Beard Award-nominated restaurant that has multiple spots in Columbia, will also have a location at Gather COLA.
