South Carolina beats out Alabama for coveted transfer offensive lineman
South Carolina has landed one of the top offensive linemen in the transfer portal.
On Thursday night, 247 Sports first reported that North Carolina State transfer OL Jacarrius Peak has committed to South Carolina.
A 6-foot-4, 300-pound college veteran, 247 Sports ranked Peak as the No. 3 transfer offensive tackle and No. 36 overall player available in the portal.
He started all 13 games at left tackle for NC State last year and was named an All-ACC Honorable Mention. Per Pro Football Focus, he was in pass protection on 486 snaps and allowed just three sacks and 10 quarterback hurries.
Peak, a Valdosta, Georgia native, was a three-star prospect in the Class of 2022. He will enroll at South Carolina with one year of eligibility remaining.
On Wednesday, just six days into the transfer portal being open, On3 reporter Pete Nakos reported that South Carolina and Alabama were the “two clear teams to watch” in Peak’s recruitment.
Eventually, the Gamecocks beat out the Crimson Tide and landed yet another piece to what is sure to be a new-look offensive line.
Following a season in which USC allowed an SEC-worst 43 sacks, seven scholarship Gamecock offensive linemen hit the portal and South Carolina brought in a new OL coach in Randy Clements.
Since the portal opened, Clements and South Carolina’s staff have been working to revitalize the entire position — and perhaps no addition is more exciting than Peak.
