Oklahoma WR transfer is South Carolina’s first portal commitment of 2026
South Carolina has landed its first player from the transfer portal this offseason.
On Sunday night, Shane Beamer and the Gamecocks received a commitment from Oklahoma transfer wide receiver Jayden Gibson. On3 Sports was the first to report the news. Gibson confirmed it on Instagram.
Gibson, a former four-star prospect from Florida in the Class of 2022, was recruited heavily by South Carolina and then-WRs coach Justin Stepp out of high school but ultimately signed with Oklahoma over Florida.
The 6-foot-5, 197-pound Gibson played sparingly as a college true freshman, checking in for nine games and catching one pass. He progressed as a sophomore, seeing the field in every game while catching 14 passes for 375 yards and five touchdowns.
Expected to be big piece of the Sooners’ 2024 offense, Gibson never saw the field. He tore his patellar tendon a few weeks before the season and missed the entire year. Gibson also didn’t play in 2025.
In October, the receiver and Oklahoma parted ways, with Gibson eventually entering the transfer portal.
Once the portal opened on Friday, Gibson’s first visit was to South Carolina. He posted a picture on Instagram on Saturday of him being driven around Columbia and later a photo of him inside the Gamecocks’ football facility.
Gibson’s commitment helps a Gamecocks receiver room that lost freshman Brian Rowe Jr. and their top pass-catcher, Vandrevius Jacobs, to the transfer portal. Outside of star Nyck Harbor, who announced his return to South Carolina, USC is lacking in a lot of returning experience at wide receiver.
Gibson might be able to help, though it’s fair to wonder what form he’ll be in for the 2026 season. His next football game will be his first in nearly three years.
