South Carolina football lands running back transfer from Texas
South Carolina stayed within the Southeastern Conference to land its third running back commitment from the transfer portal.
In a move first reported by The Big Spur, Texas’ Christian Clark committed to Shane Beamer and the Gamecocks and will have three years of eligibility left. Clark joins Ohio State’s Sam Williams-Dixon and Penn State’s Jabaree Coleman as backs Gamecocks landed from the transfer portal.
The Gamecocks have a new running backs coach in Penn State’s Stan Drayton. USC’s current running back room consists of soon-to-be redshirt juniors Isaiah Augustave and Jawarn Howell, as well as redshirt sophomore Matthew Fuller.
Clark was mainly a backup during his time at Texas but got a start for the Longhorns in the Cheez-It Bowl on Dec. 31. He ran for 105 yards in the Longhorns’ 41-27 win over Michigan.
For his year, Clark rushed for 236 yards and two touchdowns and also caught four passes for 57 yards.
Clark was a three-star prospect coming out of high school in Arizona. He rushed for 1,890 yards and 24 touchdowns during his high school career.
He did not play for Texas in 2024 after suffering an injury in fall camp.
USC and Shane Beamer now have 19 incoming transfer commits.
